This is a generally quick process useful to change unwanted behaviors/habits.
It involves first contacting that part of the psyche which generates the behavior, and then acknowledging that this part has a positive intention for the behavior Next, we ask the creative part of the person to develop three ways other than the unwanted response to meet the positive intention of the first part. The first part then accepts one or more of the creative part's more positive behavioral options. We end first by making sure that no other part objects to the accepted new choices and then moving the person into the future seeing himself or herself engaging in the new behaviors. This looking ahead orientation is called future pacing.
