"If you have a strong desire to quit smoking, you can do it by using self hypnosis [or engaging a hypnotherapist]. If, however, you are merely wondering whether self-hypnosis [or engaging a hypnotherapist] can "stop" you, forget it." - Charles Tebbetts, Self-Hypnosis |

The client who wishes to cease smoking needs to be highly motivated. This process involves behavior modification along with hypnosis and requires several sessions over the course of about two weeks. During hypnosis, the hypnotherapist gives many suggestions about how to deal with cravings, how to use fingers and mouth for more nurturing purposes, and how to forge a new identity without smoking. Self-hypnosis is taught and must be practiced on a daily basis to reinforce the positive suggestions given during the initial trance. Quite often, though, smoking is not just a habit, but rather a "medication" for other problems, which, for resolution, may need forms of more in-depth hypnotherapy.
