Neuro-Linguistic Programming is the study of human excellence, specifically how that excellence is achieved. One of its premises is that all experience, with particular attention to human excellence, has a structure which can be discovered and then called upon by an individual whenever it is desirable to do so.

Changing Behavior Using Values
6-Step Reframe
This is a generally quick process useful to change unwanted behaviors/habits.
It involves first contacting that part of the psyche which generates the behavior, and then acknowledging that this part has a positive intention for the behavior Next, we ask the creative part of the person to develop three ways other than the unwanted response to meet the positive intention of the first part. The first part then accepts one or more of the creative part's more positive behavioral options. We end first by making sure that no other part objects to the accepted new choices and then moving the person into the future seeing himself or herself engaging in the new behaviors. This looking ahead orientation is called future pacing. Scroll to Top...
Standard Swish
This is another technique to help a person move beyond an old habit or habitual response.
In this process, we help the individual identify precisely what (a thought, feeling, action) triggers the unwanted behavior and then an image of what the person would be like without the behavior. Next the individual checks to make sure that the new image of the himself or herself is okay with all of his or her parts. Then the individual, with a "swish" of the hands, replaces the old cue with the compelling image of himself or herself without the bad habit and future paces the result. Scroll to Top...
Swish Variation
This process achieves the same result as the Standard Swish.
However, when the image of the cue behavior and the image of the new behavior are discovered, they are perceived in the submodalities of distance and color instead of size and brightness as in the Standard Swish. Otherwise the processes are quite similar. Scroll to Top...
Mapping Across
This is a useful technique that allows an individual to move his or her abilities from one context to another in which the abilities were previously not available.
In this process, we discover the internal representations or submodalities of both the problem state of mind and the resourceful statement of mind. Then we "map across" by changing the submodalities of the problem state to match the submodalities of the resource state and finally future pace the result. Scroll to Top...
Visual Squash
This technique is designed to facilitate connection, integration or congruence between two very strong opposite aspects of the person
In this process, the client is asked to create different representations of each aspect, and "put" one of those representation in each of his/her hands. Then the client is asked to ask for the positive intention of each of the opposing parts. Next, each part is asked repeatedly what is important about its intention until some harmony or common purpose between the parts' intentions spontaneously emerges. As the parts "see" that they have common interests, the client is asked to bring together ("squash") his/her hands, which are "holding" the parts. The client brings his/her clasped hands towards the heart, thereby carrying the joined parts into the main personality, which then sees itself acting in the future out of the new integration of energies. Godiva Chocolate Pattern
This is a useful technique for someone who is motivated in most parts of his or her life, but finds it difficult to be motivated to do something that he or she probably doesn’t enjoy doing.
This process involves the client in transferring the energy he or she already feels in doing some wonderful thing or in immensely enjoying something (like Godiva chocolates) to performing the unpleasant task. The last step is to have the client imagine in the future doing the heretofore distanced task with gusto! Scroll to Top...
Instant Motivation
This process also helps the person become better motivated to do things he or she must do but does not like. However, unlike the Godiva Chocolate Pattern, which is best employed by those who visualize well, this process uses touch to anchor the feelings of something pleasurable into the experience of what is otherwise an unpleasant task. Fast Phobia Relief
This process is very useful for those individuals who have learned to be phobic from a single situation that was or seemed to be dangerous at the time. When this technique is used, the individual’s mind learns a new response, calmer and more relaxed, to similar situations so that he or she can remain aware enough to discern what is really dangerous or safe to do or say. Instant Calm
When a client is getting ready for an upcoming medical exam or for some kind of academic or other test, this process can help the person feel very calm. Scroll to Top...
Circle of Excellence
This is another method to help the individual access resourceful states for overcoming most anxiety and being successful. Scroll to Top...
Trans-derivational Search
With this process, the individual can locate and then integrate into his or her present experience certain resourceful states from earlier experiences. He or she might also use this technique to find the beginnings of limiting beliefs, responses and behaviors and, as a result, have the opportunity to change them. Scroll to Top...
Mentor Pattern
This is still another way to get in touch with additional resources, especially when we need a new perspective on an issue. With this technique, originally developed by Robert Dilts, the individual accesses in imagination the perspectives on the situation of three mentors he or she has known. Scroll to Top...
Decision Strategies
When a client has trouble with decision-making, this method helps the client deconstruct the decision strategy for whatever problems it creates and then substitute a modified, streamlines or new strategy. Scroll to Top...
Spiritual Healing with Perceptual Positions
This process, developed by Robert Dilts, can help the individual get out of a "stuck" way of perceiving and feeling about his or her relationship with another person. Scroll to Top...
Releasing Enmeshment
Adapted from Robert MacDonald, this process enables an individual to detach from someone who has too much authority or other power over the individual. Scroll to Top...
Generational Releasing of Enmeshment
At the request of the client, this technique may be performed after the release of enmeshment with one other individual. It is useful when it is clear that the kind of relationship under scrutiny affects other members of the client's family of origin and/or has been "inherited" from previous generations. Hemisphere Integration for a Goal
This process is most helpful to an individual who wants to make permanent a deep shift he or she has recently achieved in life or to condition the person to acknowledge that his or her goal is inevitable. Doing this technique after aligning Neurological Levels greatly enhances the latter. Scroll to Top...

Change Personal History
With this method, a client can create a much happier present life by bringing resources back to certain past experiences that created or set up his or her unpleasant current situation. Scroll to Top...
Decision Destroyer
Often we find that a choice we made in childhood or some other earlier time is no longer useful or appropriate to us in the present. This is a method, first formulated by Richard Bandler (one of the originators of NLP), to reprogram early decisions, including beliefs that now limit our forward progress. Scroll to Top...

The Autobiography
When a client is in need of a boost in self-esteem, this process provides the opportunity for him or her to see himself or herself through the eyes of someone who loves him or her.
In this visualization, the client images being at a desk writing his or her autobiography. Soon, as the client thinks of somebody who loves him or her, that somebody appears on the other side of a class door some distance from the client who is writing the autobiography. Then, as the client begins to write about the other person, the client's awareness shifts to where the loving person is located. Then, looking through the loving eyes of the other person, the client now with new appreciation sees himself or herself writing the autobiography. When the client's awareness shifts back to the his or her body, the client writes about what the experience was like and then projects into the future this better sense of self into new experiences. "If you learned to do something one way, you can learn how to do it differently and better. Learning is the way to personal freedom. Hypnosis and NLP are tools to make this easy and fun."
