A Day-Long Workshop on Dreams

In this workshop, we will first engage in a hypnotic journey to enhance our learning capacities. Then we will briefly discuss a few dream theories and define certain kinds of dreams and dream phenomena. Then I will provide a series of ways to increase your recall of dreams. 

As we begin actually to work with the dreams that you bring, we will employ a variety of modalities to elicit the revelations that the dreams provide. To paraphrase Carl Jung, a dream always means what it says, but we often have to learn how to say or otherwise experience what it means. Individually and in small groups and in the group as a whole, we will use a variety of techniques that may include drawing, writing, hypnosis, movement, improvisation and sound. Each of these modalities embraces submodalities; for instance, writing may include, among other techniques, working out the definitions of key words, exploring metaphors, taking on the point of view of other characters or elements in the dream, rearranging sections according to emotion, theme or action, changing the ending or beginning, and expanding other dream elements. We will do as much as time permits.

Come join us for a wonderful exploration into one of the greatest resources for the enhancement of our waking lives.

NOTE: This is not group therapy. Moreover, the information provided in this workshop is not intended in any way to replace professional medical or psychological diagnosis, advice or treatment.

 

Logistics:

WHAT TO BRING: a written dream (15 copies), small pillow, blanket, bag lunch (no time to go to a restaurant), pen, pad. More info about the dreams to bring will be furnished to those who sign up. 
WHAT IS PROVIDED: bagels, tea, instant coffee, jam, cream cheese in the morning; fruit, nuts, cookies for an afternoon snack. 
REFRIGERATION and MICROWAVE available for your lunch.

Consciousness exploration is not a typical weekend activity for a busy manager. But being open to new options in the power of the mind has proved a productive and useful pursuit for me with Joe Mancini. Through one of the many ingenious exercises in the weekend, I figuratively (or was it literally?) stepped into the shoes of several other people I met while under hypnosis, people facing similar issues as I am, but who deal with them vastly differently. Skeptical, I wondered how I could ever benefit from this brief relationship with imagined people so unfamiliar and foreign to me.
